Attorney at Law Ümit Altay
Ümit Altay graduated with high honours from both the Real Estate Management and the Economics faculties at Anadolu University. He began his career in the private sector and then spent some time working for the state, gaining experience of public service. While working in the public sector, he won a place at Marmara University Faculty of Law to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer, and graduated from there with honours as well.
He is a specialist mediator registered with the Turkish Ministry of Justice and also a lawyer registered with the Istanbul Bar Association.
He also works on a voluntary basis on the case of Çağla Tuğaltay, who was murdered in Istanbul on 5 June 2000. Twenty-four years on, he revived the cold case, submitting dozens of petitions to the Ministry of Justice and the prosecutor’s office that gathered the evidence and set it out as formal crime reports. Having built public awareness and become Çağla’s voice, he has been continuing his work to bring the murder to light for more than two years.
Practising law with passion, Attorney Ümit Altay has for some time also been a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the regulator of solicitors in England and Wales, and continues his professional life in both Türkiye and England.
